The Wish Project

I am painting 100 small (3"-5") watercolor/mixed media pieces based on people's "wishes" for the star show I am curating this Saturday. It is a laborious project, but makes me happy because I see a lot of people are connecting through their wishes, like an invisible constellation! I have 54 pieces done, already. The installation will feature illustrations that I hope to appear very private- almost like scraps from a diary. I want to showcase a style of illustration I have not been known for. I will have them hanging together like one large force of hope. I hope that many will enjoy it. I am enjoying this project, already!

Here's some little scraps of wishes:

Kamon

like i said... the best venue ever.

i guess my promotional flyers have made a lot of eye traffic in this last year, because the video kids in charge of the production "The 916" have featured Kamon in their first segment.

fast forward to 5:23 in the timeline...

my art is on the walls in this clip... talented local rapper, A.R.A.B. is bartending... the beginning animation is by my friend, Suha Musallam.

Work from Midnight Snackings Show

Midnight Snackings of Meanie Antoinette

hey everyone, currently, the artist I curated for last has my favorite and last painting but here's the photos from my last solo show. Here is my artist statement:

"Welcome to the world of Meanie Anotinette, where when one goes to bed hungry for dessert, one has some pretty funny dreams! Meanie's grandmother does not allow Meanie to eat dessert, after dinner. So Meanie dreams of feasting on these sugary delicacies to her heart's content (literally)!
Here, our heroine and her two bunny slippers are free to wander and sample a world full of fudge, Parisian macarons, mochi, marshmallows, cupcakes, frosting and icecream! Her world is inspired by a belief that every "grown up person" would be better off if they had at least one small moment of whimsy, indulgence and carefree silliness, every day! Have you had your cupcake, today?"

In Which Meanie is Sent to Bed with No Dessert
In Which Meanie is Caught in Tough Cookie's Cavern
In Which Meanie ambushes Mr.Delicious at Frosting Forge
In Which Meanie meets Monster Scoop
In Which Meanie Finds a Maca-go-ron
In Which they all have Stomach Aches at Fudge Falls

Live art show was a blast! we had a huge turn out- probably the most constant i've seen the venue filled. It was fun. Fike, mendez and i started at our own canvases then traded every hour, randomly jumping into eachother's pieces now and then. for a trio with very different artistic personalities, we were pretty dynamic, I feel.
We still want to add to our pieces. Anyway, it was lots of fun for the viewers and for us. I'm excited that the Kamon owner is excited and I'm excited to think of the future of what other shows I can organize with friends. The live art show was something I was nervous about but something I looked forward to, and it delivered. I wanna thank my co-hordes and everyone who came out and supported! I'm glad some of you are hooked, now, because there's only good things comin'!

Here's some minitaures I prepared for the Invisible CHildren Benefit Concert.

left to right- top to bottom (50% proceeds)
Zooey Zebra [SOLD] | Kid with Gun | Lola Lion mini
[SOLD]
Gigi Giraffe mini
[SOLD] | Emily Elephant mini [SOLD] | Kid with Gun 2
Zooey Zebra mini
[SOLD] | Lola Lion face mini

I also sold 2 old pieces, Flo and Kimmi. Both 25% proceed.

I also donated a painting named Lola Lion to the raffle. It was put up for grand prize.

The winner was coincidentally a guy who bought one of my bad milk prints, at my last solo show. Here he is chillin' with Lola:

I am amazingly honored to have been asked by the Sac State APO-ks chapter to help them organize the art show section of the show, since I am a big fan of this cause!

check out the documentary on google videos- i gaurantee you, you will never forget it!

I want to thank Justin for building that awesome wooden double sided table canvas hanger thing. I bugged him all month and he delivered only to be turned down by the owner of our venue. The worse business owner I've ever had to collaborate with... I am happy I won't be working with him, again.

woo

The Pop art show was pretty cool
. I feel greatly rewarded for my hard work/ dedication when i see that I have the ability to put together an event that will promote dedicated artists and deserving venues. I have never been a social butterfly and I find it funny that I can put together such a social event. I look forward to organizing more with Kamon and also artists I have networked with because someday I want to own my own little galleries and this will be contributing experience for that
.

I'm getting use to the responsibilities of networking and the benefits they reap. I've been asked to help coordinate the art show section of a benefit concert put together for a cause I have been supporting since I viewed it's documentary in 2005. It's called Invisible Children, and I am going to be selling some of my past paintings at the event for anywhere between 15%-100% proceeds towards Invisible Children. It will be at a benefit concert Capital Garage, Sacramento, August 29th at 9pm right after the live art show I organized with some friends at Kamon.

Also, this is my last month illustrating for my current commissioner and it's really getting to the point where I wish I had read that illustration book before I signed the contract. Reading is invaluable.

Love Tokyobunnie (even more!) and my Geisha girls...

hey everyone!
i was thrilled when i saw my favorite blogger post about my etsy =)

yay!

"I really love the sweet prints for sale in Tiffany Valdez's Nany Dada Etsy shop. Cute doe-eyed girls riding atop foxes and snails, what's not to love?" -TokyoBunnie

The Geisha show

Here are the paintings from my July show!:

The Enchantress

The Thief

The Consorter

The Altruist

The Untouchable

All the pieces have different fans and are based on "Creatures of the Night". The nocturnal animal in each piece reflect the geisha and I also have references to different nebulae in each piece. They are hanging for this month at Kamon Japanese Restaurant until my next group show, which is August 8th. The theme is pop art.

I will also be doing live art with my "co-hordes", Daniel Mendez and Grady Fike, at Kamon on the 29th of August.

lastnight's show... ack! I missed like more than 2/3 of it because of a HORRIBLE headache. im all bummed out now. I love my shows at Kamon. Thank goodness it was a group show and I left it in able hands. However, I feel like I lost my monthly experience. boooo! (and sushi!) anyway, my work is still up and i plan to go back sometime to do a "2nd" viewing of it, with friends. the unanimous response was that they are intriguing and that eventhough I tried a new technique (full acrylic), the visuals are more professional looking and stunning. Which makes me happy. Honestly after painting almost constantly this week I am seeing everything in brush strokes, which is fun! I return to school tomorrow and I will miss the canvas.

June show- Kamon Restaurant, Sac

A lot of people came out to my show at KAMON JAPANESE RESTAURANT (aka bestest venue EVUUUR) and it was really a fun experience!

I had 4 walls, this is the new wall.

I was thrilled Michelle made it out! My new pieces are actually all based on her =) awww... i know. haha

It was a very chill showing, lots of eating amazing sushi (especially from the UHMATEZING $5 BAR MENU! but also in the restaurant!) and enjoying good hosting at the bar. Most of my sales were to new people I had met, and this made me feel pretty cool.

I sold 4 prints (two prints for the 2nd time) and one painting (Gemima, who had more than one offer). I was happy at my last show because all the paintings that weren't noticed before were noticed. This time I was even happier because every piece of my 23 piece showing had at least one admirer/relater! Yay! And there were lots of very enthusiastic and indepth conversation/debate sparked by my pieces, including one that lasted quite a while on Ness.

Fighter found a home with a US marine, which I knew Michelle would totally appreciate.

Been working 559% on my illustrative job! It demands a ton of time but it is so worth it!
I also still take odd jobs here and there to keep up with my daily expenses on the way to the book's completion. This is a reproduction of an old illustration for a returning commissioner.

It makes me want to surf!

So on this 3 week break Justin and I were going to bring his cousin through Southern California- especially since Justin and I have been blowing our minds out working and we need a break to get away from it all! However, before we had a chance to make out getaway, another more exciting event has occurred! His nephew has been born! We are all very happy for his sister and I am very happy for her parents and other nephews, who are also here to stay. This past few months have been filled with the cycle of death and life for us both and we are learning and growing, together. Life is a miracle.

My next showing at Kamon is July 11th, from 6pm-12am. I am organizing a group showing based on the theme of geisha! More news on that, in time.
