WEEKLY HEROES
I was privileged to see some of the making of this video and preview the final awesome video... I promise it will be viral. It's by some cool cats in the web, film and graphic design programs at my school. So watch because it makes me jealous and it rocks!!! The site's pretty awesome, too.

HERO OF THE WEEK and daily BLA
crunch time is coming on for the paintings to be done by sat. it's fun and exhilarating, challenging and nerve-racking...
as a break from paintings, after running some art-related errands, Justin took me out to a buffet to celebrate completing my first year at AI, consistently on the President's list... a touch achievement but one I really made a point to reach. I know grades are not as important as a portfolio but I'm working on that, too. Also, I got to meet his 4 baby chicks that he bought for the hell of just having some, this weekend. They were PRECIOUS!
Also- if you are a trekkie, you SIMPLY MUST WATCH "THE VOYAGE HOME" movie... it's just TOO MUCH!
also i started a new semester. these are the classes i am taking:
History of Graphic Design
College Algebra (haha)
Photography II
Concept Design
I am very sad that I haven't gotten my Type II class yet... many of my peers are in their 3rd type class, already- thats three quarters done with type. To still be able to challenge their advancement, I keep up on paying careful attention to good type design in my little, bi-daily blog sweeps.

UPCOMING SHOW.
Hey guys... this week long spring break I wanted to be able to post up some pictures I took on the past few Saturdays but I've been busy putting a few pieces together for a show. I only got my heads up last week so I wanted to get a ton done.. here are a few pieces:
MACA-GO-RON

detail

some heads...
FLO

NESS

FIER

I am loving the whole acrylic and charcoal on canvas idea... it gives a very sketchy, and yet soft feel that I like to play with. I haven't painted so much since about five years ago so I'm glad I'm warming back up to experimenting with paint, again. Can't wait to do more, in the near future!
THE SHOW:

HERO OF THE WEEK:
pepe the brother truckin' SHRIMP!

some stuff
Hey, everyone! It's raining, over here, outside Sacramento. I said I've been putting out a lot of sketching and ideas, lately. Here's 2, in crayon and gouache:
Been keeping myself busy with school work and some odd jobs here and there.

Keeping my head occupied with ideas, sketching and planning of pieces is always a good remedy for the downs.

There's no happily ever afters- only the strength and confidence to give all your hope and power to what you believe in the most. It sounds useless if there's no promise for that dream, but regret and endless wondering is torture. If and when a worthwhile dream is achieved, it's the kind that was worth everything. It's not fair to deprive oneself of all the good possibilities in life because the bad is out there, too.
with that said, WEEKLY HERO is the legend:

SWIMMING IN THE MAGIC!
weekly hero:
it's between... HUNCA MUNCA- from Beatrix Potter's "Two Bad Mice" and MY MELODY- from the "Onegai My Melody" show

Ponyo On A Cliff By The Sea- from Studio Ghibli
GOOD VIEWING!

This movie is now one of my absolute favorite Animes and, by far, my favorite full Anime film. It was like finding nemo + the little nemo in slumberland + the little mermaid all wrapped up into one!! A bit of the story line seemed vague- especially when alluding to the romance of Ponyo's own parents and the intentions of her father. What's more, it got a foggier when saying a "man" should accept Ponyo... when the main character is in fact a five year old boy. However, the scripting is very true to the wonder of the kindergarten age! The animated worlds created by Hiyao Miyazaki are of epic scale and pure magic. Our world is just beginning to tap at what exactly is down there- an odd thought, as water is EVERYWHERE. However, the opening scene is great witness to Miyazaki's amazing vision and ability to communicate it to the viewer. HIslarge scale vision of our under-sea world and it's interaction with the one we know is seen through in grand leaps of imagination and color. Several scenes jump to my mind- the scene with Ponyo running on large fish past Sesuke's father, the scene with Lisa's workplace totally underwater and her charges running around like young children. The expressions, ambitions and reactions of the two young characters to the world around them are animated with great attention to the spirit of childhood. =They are, therefore, very charming to say the very least! I adore this film! I cannot wait to see it over and over again!
Random Afroken CG animations... GOOD VIEWING!
youtube has a lot of kawaii cartoons and CG animations up. my favorites are some i found recently of one of my beloooooved Japanese characters EVUUUUUUR. his name is AFROKEN. and he is HILARIOUS.

QUICK UPDATE
been doing a lot of school work, lately. but im sketching some new stuff. been loving me some old things. vintage valentines are so in for me right now! as are polaroids, art that resembles doodles, collages, explosions in marker on a teenager's diary pages, embroidery, whatever reminds me of geisha and marie antoinette (sofia copola) and retro 80s type nostalgia... i have been putting together collages of these images to help me get a feel of the emotions i want the viewer to come across in my upcoming work...
LOVING
via TokyoBunnie's blog, this artist's illustrations are so refreshing and full of energy that they make me super excited to look at! BABYC.
COME HOME WITH ME: oh lovely wall art from neawear's etsy!

GOOD READS
for Valentines day:

Love Is In Bloom by Kim Casali
When I first saw Casali's characters, it did take some time to get use to the nakedness. however, after seeing this book and giving it a run through, i am now a fan! her illustrations remind me of the kind of free spirit of the 60s through the 80s. yes, it's a bit odd to see the two naked, baby-faced lovers on every page, doing ordinary things, sometimes including their children. but, i appreciate this as a testament on the power of love... the universality of the way it accepts the beloved at all moments as their bare self... and the fact that it reduces the biggest of adults to the smallest of beings- with yet so much to learn. also, each little caption was full of experience, wisdom, warmth and humor! What a perfect Valentines day present.

Audrey Style by Pamela Clarke Keogh and Hubert de Givenchy
i am enamored with portraits of Audrey Hepburn, especially in black and white. i usually fall in love the moment i spot one, even before close examination. something about that classic face... looking through this book was so inspiring!

Hello, Please! Very Helpful Super Kawaii Characters from Japan by Matt Alt and Hiroko Yoda
This is a must have book for those who gush over all things kawaii and the intrigue of it's significance to Japan culture- (aka: me). The little characters are all so fun to look at and read about! Always heard of it but never had the chance to sit down with it until recently. Wished I could walk away with it!
