Swoon, swoon.
So comforting for sick Tiffany.

Oh man, old chick flicks comfort a sick Tiffany wrapped in comforters and steeped in tea.

Did I mention I wish I were just like Audrey Hepburn? My favorite of all time?

Bea Valdes, Philippines

The quarter is over. I worked super, super hard. It was constant hard work. I'm proud of myself for getting all As!

A few of my good friends from school have graduated. I will miss them so, so much! I have 2 quarters left.

Also, just WOW:

I was privileged to see some of the making of this video and preview the final awesome video... I promise it will be viral. It's by some cool cats in the web, film and graphic design programs at my school. So watch because it makes me jealous and it rocks!!! The site's pretty awesome, too.

Senior Classes....

It seems classes have really gotten harder with each year, and since this quarter I am taking more classes than usual, it's getting harder to meet the challenge. But I'm meeting it!

Here's an amazing group of kids that put a smile on my face even when I'm stressed:

Hard times

It seems that me and everyone I care about are going through a lot of tough times, loss, confusion and pretty jolty turns in the road.

Let's remember the beautiful things in life - the favorite things that make moments a little easier to bear.

Let's remember how this big world is full of wonders... and so much bigger than the dark we might encounter.

Let's grasp life.

I could not have read this beautiful article at a better time:

If you were busy walking off to your daily routine, would you notice that the man on the corner playing the violin is one of the most famous violinists in the world -who just sold out a concert at $100 a seat- playing one of the most difficult violin solos in history?

Baz Luhrmann

Dear Baz,
Your work is captivating...

A feast for the eyes and a tug at the heart.

How did you get so awesome?

ANOTHER REASON TO LOVE. AND TO LOVE STARBUCKS.

9.07.2009

Loving:

Bestie girl time over pumpkin scone and pumpkin spice latte !

Then watching julie & julia as the youngest girlfriends in the theater ! =P I mean, I do wish I were a domestic goddess, right?

The movie reminds me of Justin and my relationship =)... loved all the eye candy. The kitchens? To die for. And so was the Parisian scenery. And so was the set design of the little Queens apartment. Embroidery over the bed? Please!
I feel like an Etsy-loving, vintage-grabbing, artsy fartsy kid like me designed the sets and costumes. Two little white dresses Julie wore MUST be mine. Including this one, which she wore in a rooftop dining scene (also an amazingly romantic idea).

Of course, Meryl Streep is a fave of mine and I found myself amused by the dynamic with Stanley Tucci. Both were in Devil Wears Prada. Their delivery in that movie was very different, as the roles were. I also felt that Amy Adams, though sometimes cute for the sake of cute, was actually very fitting for her role. I want to own this movie so I can laugh at it, again, someday.

oh. my . goodness

so busy these days... lots of art show organization and illustration work... lots of homework! trips to michaels are very tempting but i've got my long list of specific things i MUST buy and the coupon system that will help me save money for it all! oh, all the things i want to craft... you shall have to wait until i am an old lady in the dessert or living in front of a lake in Alaska or something!
seeing this totally makes me feel comforted and rested!

i use to LOVE this little cut in one of my Disney Sing Along Songs videos!

PS- ponyo came out today!

pps- i think AWAY WE GO is cute! and i want to see 500 days of summer.

AND ALSO!

one of the most amazing books i ever saw as a child and admired has FINALLY been found. i collected lots of picture books -mainly little golden books- that my nanny would give me. this one was not a little golden book, and like many of the books, i can still picture many spreads. i remember the smell of the book, the cover textures... i remember how gingerly i treated it- it was a treasure! i remember the story line pretty well, too. and i would search for it sometimes by keywords over and over. It's been years. I finally found it!

whats more...
I FOUND AN OPEN SOURCE PDF OF IT.

MOVIES IM WATCHING

omg... so gorgeous.

never EVUR gets old.

BOOKS IM READING
(GOOD READS)

The Elements of Typographic Style
Robert Bringhurst
while my type teacher said it is a wonderful reference, he also called it dense. that made it a challenge for me. i checked it out and... I love it! and i want it! It is a wonderful reference and i want to absorb all the knowledge and theory!

How to be an Illustrator
Darrel Rees
I'm only a third into it and it's so insightful. A very worthwhile read for me as a newbie and as someone who doesn't have many experienced references into my current field. I never like putting it down, it's so educational.

lastnight's show... ack! I missed like more than 2/3 of it because of a HORRIBLE headache. im all bummed out now. I love my shows at Kamon. Thank goodness it was a group show and I left it in able hands. However, I feel like I lost my monthly experience. boooo! (and sushi!) anyway, my work is still up and i plan to go back sometime to do a "2nd" viewing of it, with friends. the unanimous response was that they are intriguing and that eventhough I tried a new technique (full acrylic), the visuals are more professional looking and stunning. Which makes me happy. Honestly after painting almost constantly this week I am seeing everything in brush strokes, which is fun! I return to school tomorrow and I will miss the canvas.

HERO OF THE WEEK and daily BLA

crunch time is coming on for the paintings to be done by sat. it's fun and exhilarating, challenging and nerve-racking...

as a break from paintings, after running some art-related errands, Justin took me out to a buffet to celebrate completing my first year at AI, consistently on the President's list... a touch achievement but one I really made a point to reach. I know grades are not as important as a portfolio but I'm working on that, too. Also, I got to meet his 4 baby chicks that he bought for the hell of just having some, this weekend. They were PRECIOUS!

Also- if you are a trekkie, you SIMPLY MUST WATCH "THE VOYAGE HOME" movie... it's just TOO MUCH!

also i started a new semester. these are the classes i am taking:
History of Graphic Design
College Algebra (haha)
Photography II
Concept Design

I am very sad that I haven't gotten my Type II class yet... many of my peers are in their 3rd type class, already- thats three quarters done with type. To still be able to challenge their advancement, I keep up on paying careful attention to good type design in my little, bi-daily blog sweeps.

this is my weekly hero:

MUGGLESAM

I've been a subscriber to Mugglesam on Youtube 's videos, for a while. Someday, I hope my kids will be as tolerant of and comfortable with a camera... because I'm FOR SURE going to be a Parent-Paparazzi mother. I will so be in their faces with the camera ALL the time- I don't think I'll be able to help myself! Anyway! I also found out that Mugglesam has created a blog for her eldest daughter's amazing art pieces. Of course, I myself have a large collection of drawings that my students at chruch have made me, and I am so inspired by the free form in their work. So! I wanted to show you all the link before I subscribe! So you can all enjoy the work done by this adorable little girl:
